Peters changed his approach in the second half, after Town were overrun in the first period.
The Gay Meadow men switched to a wing-back system to counteract Peterborough's system: "The first half wasn't very good but then we changed the way we played, they were having too much of the play and as we were playing a different system to them it was hard to see where we were losing the battles.
"In the second half we played exactly the same as they did and went man-for-man all over the park, we got tighter and stopped them playing," he explained on the club's official website.
The changes paid off as Town grabbed two goals to take the three points, but Peters was full of praise for the defensive performance.
Peters said: "The defence was brilliant; getting headers out and blocking the ball, and at the other end we worked a couple of good goals.
"It was hard for Peterborough as they were attacking us and trying to get back in the game, so that did give us a little bit more space in their half and we could hit them on the break."
Duane Darby scored the second goal after returning from a long injury lay-off, and Peters reseved some kind words for the big striker, without getting too carried away: "Duane did brilliantly when he came on, but it's early days for him and I don't think he's fully match fit and will find it hard to start him in a game yet."
