Collins is quoted in the Irish Daily Mirror today as revealing that he had applied for the job and that subsequently Town's board indicated they would like to interview the Irishman.
In a big day of news for Collins, it is also reported elsewhere that he has today walked out of Dublin City, the side he took over at the start of the season, in foavour of their nearest relegation rivals, Shamrock Rovers.
The likelihoood of Collins pursuing his interest in the Town post would seem to be diminished by the new turn of events.
And Town fans would surely not be happy if a man with such questions over his loyalty were appointed.
