Lyng is and Ireland under 18 international. Along with fellow new signing Kelvin Langmead, he is part of the Preston youth programme overseen by Peters when he was at the club.
He has signed an 18 month deal with Town and will be pushing Trevor Challis for a spot in the first team.
The move gives town an inexperienced looking left-side, which also features loanee Neil Ashton.
