Peters was quick to claim that he would only be celebrating if Town gained three points on Saturday.
Peters told ShrewsWeb: "I won't be celebrating tonight as it's all about us getting league points."
Town scored a last ditch equaliser to force extra time, then took the lead in the opening minutes of the additional period.
And although substitute Jay Denny was Town's two-goal hero, Peters was full of praise for Colin McMenamin, the Scottish striker signed in the summer.
The Town boss said: "Colin McMenamin was magnificent, he set up all three goals and worked his socks off down that line and into the box, everyone owes him a big gratitude."
And Peters was also pleased with the performances of newcomers Steve Hogg and Richard Hope, "We bedded two players tonight with Steve Hogg and Richard Hope making their first starts, and both were superb and proved they can play at this level," he added.
