"[Boss] Graham Turner sought to change the squad, bringing in young players who've been given the chance to step up to the mark and how well they've done."
He added: "The infrastructure at this club is widely accepted to be ready for higher league football."
Manager Graham Turner confirmed the club's view, saying: "There's no doubt about the ambitions of the club.
"We've been talking to a number of potential signings, and players know we want to be among the frontrunners."
Turner rued missing out in the League Two play-offs as a possible put-off for League One players he has targeted.
But the Town boss added: "We've got the advantage of the great facilities and our reputation for helping and developing young players, so we're keeping a few plates in the air with possible signings."
