Former Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson said he was not shocked by his sacking after failing to reach the play-offs.Simpson, speaking to BBC Radio Shropshire in his first interview since leaving the Shrews in April, admits they missed out on their targets.
"We fell short over long periods of the season. Like many managers you're judged on results and signings," the former Carlisle boss said.
"It wasn't a shock, it's always a disappointment," he added.
Simpson joined Town in March 2008 and led them clear of the relegation zone, before guiding them to the play-off final last year, losing to Gillingham.
But after losing out on a play-off place this season, Simpson expected the worst.
"The football club has an expectation and the minute it became clear we weren't going to get into the play-offs, it wasn't a shock," he said.
The search for his successor is underway with the club drawing up a shortlist of candidates ready for the interview stage with Graham Turner, Jim Gannon and Mark Venus linked with the post.
But the former boss has his own ideas of getting back into the game.
"I'm already looking, I'm already getting calls to put my CV in for jobs, so that's a boost," he added.
Simpson's interview will be broadcast on BBC Radio Shropshire 96 FM on Tuesday from 1900 BST.
