Torquay were made to rue a missed penalty from Nicky Wroe as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury started brightly and raced into a fifth minute lead, Jake Robinson dispossessing a hesitant Mark Ellis and breaking into the box before cracking home a shot off the far post for his eighth goal of the season. But Torquay, now without a win in six games, responded positively and controlled the rest of the first half in which they were awarded two penalties. In the 23rd minute Wroe fired high and wide from the spot after goalkeeper Chris Neal brought down Elliot Benyon. But Benyon made no mistake 11 minutes later when referee Chris Sarginson once again pointed to the spot, the striker squeezing home his penalty after Eunan O'Kane was upended by Shane Cansdell-Sherriff. The visitors almost won it when substitute Wayne Carlisle crashed a 20-yard drive against the post five minutes from time.
