Rovers tame the Shrews
Andy Robinson's sweet strike on the stroke of half-time earned Tranmere a 1-0 win at fellow strugglers Shrewsbury.
The Shrews, who have lost their last three home games, made much of the early running with Nicky Wroe firing narrowly over from Jon Taylor's neat lay-off before Dave Winfield headed Taylor's corner just wide.
Tranmere had been toothless going forward until they took the lead in first-half injury time.
Tom Eaves lost the ball on the halfway line and Danny Holmes's cross was cleverly nodded down by Ryan Lowe for Robinson to fire a low shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner of the net.
It was a sweet moment for veteran midfielder Robinson, 34, starting his first game since August following injury.
Eaves nearly equalised early in the second half but his shot was well kept out by Owain Fon Williams, the only save the Tranmere goalkeeper had to make.
Joe Jacobson volleyed over from close range deep into stoppage time but Rovers held on to register a fourth away win of the season.
