"It was a demanding work but the players responded magnificently," the Town boss told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"They all bought into it really well, so much so that pre-season training is well ahead of schedule - it's exceeded all our expectations."
He added: "It meant we could come back to base in great shape, ahead of where we thought we'd be, and really get down to business with the football side of things."
Midfielder Nick Wroe said: "It was intense, but spirit in the camp has hit new levels."
New signing Joe Jacobson has shrugged off a dead leg he picked up at Shawbury, while
Terry Gornell - who should finally become a Shrewsbury player once a fee is agreed with Accrington
- is resting an ankle knock.
Town's first pre-season friendly is at home to a Manchester United XI on Sunday (17 July).
