Simpson's men are just three points off a top-seven place, but the Shrews manager said his team must focus on correcting their own performances after suffering a third successive loss.
"Results elsewhere don't matter," he said. "If we don't do our job it's irrelevant what happens elsewhere. We've got nine games left now, we need to get our fingers out and do something about it.
"If we put our own house in order the rest will sort itself out.
"We didn't have any spark about us, we gave ourselves problems by not being positive with our forward balls and it was as if we were waiting for something to go against us to spark us in to life."
