Shrews win is Taylor madeJon Taylor's goal early in the second half sealed a hard-earned 1-0 win for Shrewsbury over fellow League One strugglers Stevenage.Mike Jackson's side had to dig deep to seal a result which lifted them off the foot of the table as they were reduced to 10 men for the closing stages after Asa Hall was sent off.Shrewsbury made much of the early running with visiting goalkeeper Chris Day quickly called upon to turn a shot from Taylor from the edge of the area around a post.Skipper Tamika Mkandawire then tried his luck from even further out but again Day was up to the task as he palmed the ball away.Stevenage showed little attacking intent until the closing stages of the first half when Lukas Akins fired straight at Chris Weale from long distance.Paul Parry's well-struck volley was superbly saved by the excellent Day at the start of the season half before the breakthrough finally came in the 57th minute.The impressive Dominic Iorfa robbed Luke Freeman and slipped a fine ball to Taylor who fired powerfully past Day for his eighth goal of the season.Shrewsbury pushed for a second goal but were denied time and again by Day before Stevenage threatened a late equaliser when the recalled Weale and his back four had to soak up plenty of pressure.Shrewsbury lost midfielder Hall to a second yellow card seven minutes from time but stood firm despite seven minutes of stoppage time to collect three crucial points
