Despite their faltering league form, Shrewsbury Town moved into round two off the LDV Vans Trophy with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Conference side Morecambe.
After losing their previous two home games Shrewsbury, beaten finalsits in this competition six years ago, were anxious to make a return to winning ways on home soil and a seventh minute goal from hotshot striker Luke Rodgers put them well on their way.
But the home side did not have things all their own way and it needed a Mark Atkins penalty 11 minutes after the break to finally give Kevin Ratcliffe's men breathing space.
