Substitute Ryan Lowe grabbed a late brace to kill off Swansea's hopes in Shrewsbury's 3-0 victory at Gay Meadow this evening.
Stephen Jagielka's injury (a Knee injury after colliding with the advertising hordings) midway through the second-half gave Lowe the chance to come on and show his pedigree - and he didn't disappoint taking his two goals with composure after missing a number of opportunities against Kidderminster and Rocdale.
The first real chance of the game fell to Mick Heathcote after 26 minutes when he rose to meet an outswinging corner from left by Ian Woan, but his firm header from the penalty spot was tipped over by Swansea keeper Roger Freestone.
However, The Shrews did take the lead five minutes before half-time when a left-wing cross by Stephen Jagielka found Tony Lormor in space on the right-hand side of the box, and he drilled home right-footed past the despairing dive of Freestone. A quality finish, the loan striker now has 2 Goals in 5 games.
Town almost doubled their advantage midway through the second half with a brilliant left-footed volley by Sam Aiston from the edge of the box that flew just over the bar, and then shortly after Mamady Sidibe should have equalised but drilled his right-footed shot over the bar whan it looked easier to score.
Then, when it looked like one goal would be enough for The Shrews, the second goal finally arrived through Lowe who drilled home a shot across Freestone into the far corner with just three minutes to go.
And Lowe finally put the game to bed with his quick-fire second minutes later, slipping the ball under the advancing Freestone to make it 3-0 in the 89th minute.
The two goals were very pleasing for Ryan who was dropped to the bench after some very dissapointing displays in recent weeks. Sam Aiston and Lowe have now given Kevin Ratcliffe a selection head ache for Saturay's gam against Halifax.
